~Bio

 

Logan has spent most of his life in Baltimore, he pursued from an early age diverse fine art and craft media, pursuing opportunities to learn skill sets from metalworking, hot and cold glasswork, and beadwork, to cake decoration. He enjoys having a wide skill set of working materials to render ideas in their ideal medium. Finishing his senior year at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), he is majoring in painting - but with a concentration in art history (from where he takes great influence).

 

 

~Artist Statement

 

My paintings reveal the luminous and expressive qualities of skin and flesh, with the concept of flesh being intimately related to the sensuality of touch. Flesh is at once luminous and transparent, its outer layer giving clues to the mass beneath. I see the form and function of flesh as having a tremendous influence on us, and our concept of flesh is integral to understanding the physical substance of the body.

 

This series of paintings arose from the idea of human flesh represented through the flesh of fruit; I show flesh as terrifying and repulsive, but also sweet and seductive. Flesh carries a complex specificity of form economy and reveals its true nature only through scrutiny. Probing deep into the gory flesh of fresh fruit allows me to explore the endless variations of their forms, obsessing over every pit and fiber with manic intensity.

 

Although many artists have used fruit as an analog for the human body, my portraits take on the association with an almost morbid sense of humor. The chromatic density of these paintings assists their composition in creating a sense of overwhelming anxiety and drama, while at the same time allowing viewers the emotional safety of realizing that it is, in the end, fruit.
